Independent Living

HopeTree Family Service’s Independent Living Program offers admission to 16 to 20 year olds.  Residents may stay until age 21.  Our goal is to equip individuals with everyday life skills and help them achieve self-sufficiency.

Our staff spends quality, one-on-one time with each resident, helping him/her learn and strengthen skills in areas such as food preparation, money management, educational planning, work life and self care. Residents practice everyday skills like menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking and housekeeping. They also learn valuable job search, budgeting, and social skills.

Elements of ILP include:

·         Case management services

·         Individual weekly goal review sessions

·         Casey Life Skills Curriculum

·         Group meetings

·         Skills training

Residents are required to work part-time, and must be enrolled in an educational or vocational program. Those in high school have the option of attending Salem High School or enrolling in HopeTree Academy.  College students have the opportunity to take advantage of nearby Virginia Western Community College.

HopeTree’s Independent Living Program creates a wonderful and supportive atmosphere for residents to mature into adulthood and become successful citizens in their respective communities.
