SALEM—

One of the Roanoke Valley’s oldest providers of care for at-risk children and youth continues to expand its services to those in need. HopeTree Family Services announces that its Independent Living program, which helps adolescent residents make the transition from residential living to adulthood, will now accept residents directly from other placement agencies or organizations.

Since its inception four years ago, HopeTree’s Independent Living program was available only to residents who had already completed either the Agency’s Residential program or Wilderness Outdoor Opportunity Discovery Schools. Now, in an effort to provide a higher level of care to young people whose needs are not being met by other area residential childcare facilities, HopeTree will immediately begin accepting residents directly from those other agencies.

The Independent Living program provides a bridge between the constant supervision of a traditional residential program and the tremendous freedom, and responsibilities, of adulthood by teaching a wide range of vital life skills. Residents in the Independent Living program receive a limited amount of supervision and must be enrolled in some type of post-secondary education, maintain at least part-time employment, and submit weekly written budgets and menu plans.

HopeTree Family Services provides a wide range of residential and emergency care placement programs for at-risk children and youth across Virginia. The Agency has a strong reputation for providing quality care. HopeTree Family Services also operates a network of 15 group homes for adults with developmental disabilities.
